Hôtel de Ville - Paris City Hall

The Paris Town Hall or Hôtel de Ville has been the seat of the capital's municipal institutions since 1357 (until then located in the Châtelet quarter).

Redesigned in the 16th and then 19th centuries, the facade boasts a Neo-Renaissance design. The interior is ornamented with rich decorations that range from the Renaissance to the Belle Epoque era. It also serves as a display space, hosting free exhibitions throughout the year.

The Hôtel de Ville square (formerly known as the Grève square) had always been the place for revolutionary events and demonstrations. Today this is where the ice rink is set up during the winter and giant screens are set up for sporting events.
