La Tour-Montparnasse

The Montparnasse tower can be seen as a real architectural miracle. Raised on concrete pillars with foundations 80 metres deep, it is as a futuristic totem made of steel and glass in the heart of this trendy district of the same name.

A Bohemian atmosphere radiates in the Montparnasse quarter, which is the meeting place of night hawks, artists and intellectuals. The Tower was built on the site of the former railway station of Montparnasse where on August 25th, 1944 the surrender of the German garrison was signed. It was completed in 1973, and reaches a height of 196 (over 640 feet).

It is an ideal place to start the discovery of Paris. The fastest elevator in Europe will take you to the top in 38 seconds. From this fantastic observatory, you will be able toidentify the main monuments and the districts of Paris. Telescopes and viewpoint indicators are even provided to able you to see better.

Some facts and figures: 25 lifts, 40 firemen, 8,000 employees, 56 concrete pillars.

Timhotel’s tips and suggestions:

Musée du Montparnasse: temporary exhibitions telling the stories and history of the neighbourhood and its artists.
La Closerie des Lilas: a famous beautifully decorated brasserie where Jean-Paul Startre, Hemingway, Picasso and many other celebrities used to go.
Brasserie La Coupole: the Mecca of night-life where a part of Montparnasse’ legend took root.
Bobin' o: a sexy and humorous cabaret, right at the foot of the Tower.

Go up to the top of the Tower to take advantage of the spectacular views across Paris. The 360 ° Café, the highest panoramic bar of the capital, is perfect for a romantic break, especially at night.
