Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie de La Villette
This futuristic complex, whose name La Villette’ means « small city », is built on the former site of slaughterhouses. It presents a comprehensive view of science, industry, and technology through activities both fun and accessible to everyone. It also aims to help us understand the stakes of society linked to their evolution.
It is a perfect demonstration of democratisation mixing leisure and knowledge through interactive activities. Should you ask a question? Objects will answer to you. Everything has been conceived in order to make you feel interested and involved in all kinds of sciences and technologies in our everyday life.
Good to know :
The building takes after the Babel tower and the Egyptian pyramids. Everything is huge : 250 m long, 150 m wide, 50 m high for a total area of 150,000 m2. The main hall is 100 m long and 20 m wide.
Timhotel’s hint and suggestion:
Among the attractions you should not miss is the special exhibition dedicated to children from 2 to 12 years old. A real ants’ nest, carnivorous plants, a TV studio where you can act as if you were a real presenter…
In the Géode park lies a grand marvel. It is a polished steel ball like a bright mirror. A futuristic cinema which gives a field of vision of 180° by way of an enormous semi-circular screen of 1,000 square metres.
