Musée du quai Branly

The Quai Branly museum is the latest art institution in the Parisian scope dedicated to African, Asia, Oceanian and American arts and civilisations. It is all together a museum, a mediatheque, and a research centre. Opened in 2006, its collections include more than 300,000 items and works of art. Most of them come from the Musée de l’Homme (Mankind museum) and the Musée des Arts d’Afrique et d’Océanie (museum of Arts from Africa & Oceania). Among them, are 3,500 items displayed according to their geographical origin.

The architect Jean Nouvel has designed the contemporary building. It looks like a footbridge stretching along the Seine, overlooking the hills and ornamental lakes of the gardens. On the riverside, do not miss the stunning vegetation wall of Patrick Blanc.

You can walk freely inside the museum. No walls but an itinerary through the continents allowing you to discover the variety and the richness of the collections, especially the arts of Africa, which is considered as the most, complete in the world.

Good to know:
At one end of the footbridge, stands the music tower. Like the Ali Baba cavern, it shows 9,000 musical instruments all along its 24 metres height. This impressive glass tower allows you to see all the levels of the museum

Timhotel’ tips and suggestion:
A very nice panoramic view from the roof restaurant and the mediatheque.
