Grand Palais
The Grand Palais was built for the Paris Exhibition of 1900 in order to promote « the glory of French Arts’. Until recently, it had been closed for extensive renovation for twelve years. It now offers exceptional architectural scenery with the Pont Alexander III, the most elegant bridge, in the background.
Many events take place here : Haute-Couture fashion shows, Art fairs, Antiques Bienniale, FIAC, as well as temporary exhibitions dedicated to Emil Nolde or Picasso. Check the agenda on this site to know the current program.
Good to know:
The foundations of the building required 3,400 wooden supports. The section facing Avenue Winston Churchill is made with 17,000 m2 of stone, 10,000 m3 of rubble and 2 million bricks. Up to 15 000 workers worked on this titanic construction site using many different materials such as steel (8 500 tons), stone and glass.

Take the time to admire the facade with the gorgeous baroque style sculptures of Georges Récipon. The monumental bronze ‘Quadrigas’ are situated on each wing of the building. Inside the nave stands a beautiful Art nouveau staircase with a double flight of stairs.
