Institut du monde arabe
The IMA (Institute of Arabic World) is a privileged place of culture which was established thanks to a partnership between France and 22 Arabic nations. This foundation can be seen as an introduction to the Arabic cultural influence and enables exchanges of knowledge between France and the Arabic world.
The architecture of the building admiringly illustrates the oriental culture. Its integration within its environment is a real hit.
Glass, aluminium and concrete were used in an ingenious way. Hundreds of diaphragms decorate its facade, evoking moucharabiehs which are so characteristic of Arabic decoration.
For over 15 years, the IMA has been a great success, especially with worldwide famous temporary exhibitions. The institute includes a museum, a library, exhibition centres, an audio visual room, a medina, a restaurant and a cafeteria.
Good to know :
A permanent exhibition of art objects including exquisite jewelry, miniatures, ancient carpets, ceramics and lovely chiseled brass basins with gold and silver incrustrations can be visited on the fourth flour of the museum.
Timhotel’s tips and suggestions:
Mint tea is served in the literary café situated on the ground floor or at the Medina, on the square. If you appreciate Oriental food, do not miss the Ziryab restaurant on the 9th floor. You will also enjoy a beautiful view of the sights.
