Musée Rodin

More than 300 works from the most famous French sculptors are skilfully arranged in this magnificent house of the XVIIIth century. Jean Aubert, the future architect of the luxurious stables of the Chantilly castle, built the Biron hotel between 1728 and 1730. It stands like a real castle in the middle of a three-hectare park, rue de Varenne, next to the dome of the Invalides. In 1908, Auguste Rodin rented a section of this mansion to exhibit his works here. Now a property of the state, the estate became a museum dedicated to this brilliant artist who became a national celebrity.

On the ground floor, we can admire " The Age of Bronze " which provoked a scandal at the time. Besides the eulogies about the sensually and the realism emanating from this male figure, the author was accused of having modelled from life. Isn’t it the proof of the genius of the artist? You can also appreciate the works of Camille Claudel with whom Auguste Rodin had a love affair.
Among the great classics, you can see “the thinker” and “the Kiss”.

Good to know :
With an average of 500,000 visitors per year, the Rodin museum is after the Louvre, Versailles and the Orsay Museum one of the most visited museums in France.

Timhotel’s tips and suggestions:
Do not miss the outdoor sculptures in the park: ‘the Door of the Hell’, the famous ‘Burghers person of Calais’, ‘Balzac’.
