A modern and innovative building, the new Palais de Justice
Historically located on the Ile de la Cité, the new Courthouse has now been installed in a skyscraper created by Renzo Piano, in the Batignolles district, at the feet of the Timhotel Paris Berthier. Following Nicolas Sarkozy's decision in 2009 and François Hollande's agreement in 2012, building work began a year later and ended in April 2018 with the opening of the premises and the relocation of the staff.
The Palais de Justice in Paris has become the largest complex of law courts in Europe. Henceforth the Paris Court of First Instance, the Police Court, the Social Security Court and the 20 Courts of Jurisdiction are united in one and same entity. This 160-meter building is now the second tallest tower in Paris, behind the Montparnasse Tower.
Currently served by the metro line 13 and the RER C, access by public transport is being reinforced by the extensions of line 14 and tram T3.
