Tuileries Garden
Located in between the Louvre Museum and the Avenue de Champs-Elysées, the Jardin des Tuileries owes its name to the tile factory that once stood on the site.
At first it was designed as an Italian-style garden, before being entrusted to landscape architect Andre Le Nôtre who turned it into a huge and magnificent French-style garden.
The Palais des Tuileries, the royal residence for which these gardens were designed, was destroyed by the Communards and razed to the ground in 1880.
In 2005, the Tuileries Garden officially became attached to the Louvre Museum. Just before the round pond, or Grand Bassin, you will find the Feuillant terrace which runs parallel to the Rue de Rivoli. This leads to the Jeu de Paume museum, while the parallel terrace on the river side leads to the Orangerie Museum.
The Jardin des Tuileries combines nature and art in the very heart of Paris.
