Châtelet theatre - National Scene
Decided by Haussmann, the Châtelet theater was constructed by Gabriel Davoud and finished in 1862. The emperess Eugenie was present for the inauguration of the performance hall, which at the time was the largest in Paris and also had the best acoustics, thanks to its large glass dome. This theater hosted some of the biggest tours in Parisian history including, in the 1870s, the Colonnes concerts who employed contemporary composers, cinematic debuts, and Russian ballets by Diaghilev. In 1980, take over by the City of Paris, this theater took on the title of "Musical theater of Paris;" its calendar of events now includes many musical acts, world composers, confirmed artists and young prodigies.
