The Banque de France is behind a major project which is set to open in 2019. The Hôtel Gaillard building has been completely renovated for this purpose. A brand new museum, Citéco stands for Cité de l'Economie et de la Monnaie ("City of Economics and Coins"). The project takes its inspiration from the City of Sciences and Industry in La Villette. Its mission is to open up economics and make it accessible to as many people as possible. The architectural competition was won by the Ateliers Lion-Eric Pallot-Agence Confino group. In the former strong room, old coins and notes will be on display, while a 430 m2 area will be used for temporary exhibitions. A café will welcome visitorts in the inner courtyard.
