The National Galleries of the Grand Palais

The Grand Palais in Paris is an impressive 200-metre long edifice that rises to 45 metres in height, situated between the Champs Elysées and the place de la Concorde. It was built just in time for the World Fair of 1900 in Paris and sports a magnificent glass-roofed nave.

Designed by three architects working together, the Grand Palais hosts exhibitions as well as shows and trade fairs.

In 1964 a section was converted into a series of galleries, on the request of André Malraux, the then Minister of Culture, so that it could host international level exhibitions. .

The works of a number of top-level artists have thus been exhibited here including Georges de La Tour, Gustave Courbet, Chardin, Monet and Nicolas Poussin.
